Best AI Tax Research Tools in India (2026): Ranked for CA Firms

Last updated:

Choosing an AI tax research tool in India got harder on 1 April 2026, when the Income-tax Act, 2025 came into force. A CA firm now reads two statutes: the Income-tax Act, 1961 for earlier years and pending matters, and the 2025 Act from tax year 2026-27. A tool that answers fluently but cites the wrong Act, a withdrawn circular or a judgment that does not say what it claims creates more review work, not less.

Most "best AI tools for CAs" lists rank bookkeeping and GST-reconciliation software. This guide is narrower: it compares tools built to answer research questions for CA firms and in-house tax teams.

How we ranked these tools

We compared five options against six criteria that matter to a reviewing partner.

CriterionWhat we looked for
Source groundingAnswers drawn from a curated Indian corpus, not open-web recall
Citation traceabilityA reviewer can open the cited provision or judgment
Coverage breadthIncome tax, GST, FEMA, corporate law, SEBI and customs
Path to a deliverableHelp producing the note or opinion, not just the answer
Data handlingA published position on model training
Pricing clarityPublic pricing and a trial

1. AskSolique: best for cross-domain tax and regulatory research

AskSolique ranks first because it is built for the matter that does not stay inside one Act. One question is reasoned across six modules (income tax, GST, FEMA, corporate law, SEBI and customs), so a fee paid to a foreign group company can be read under withholding, GST and FEMA together. For income tax, the 1961 and 2025 Acts are mapped side by side.

The bigger difference is what happens after the answer. The Research Centre returns cited positions; the Delivery Centre turns a position into a client-ready document drafted by a panel of domain specialists; and the Personalised Knowledge Base keeps saved research, memos and templates searchable for the whole firm. Browsing the Data Centre costs no credits.

Pricing is credit-based, not per seat: a free trial, ₹999 + GST packs, and Pro at ₹3,999 + GST a month or ₹39,999 + GST a year, per the pricing page. AskSolique states that customer inputs are never used to train shared models.

2. Taxmann.AI

Taxmann.AI, launched with EY India, gives citation-backed answers drawn from Taxmann's acts, rules, circulars, notifications, case law, treaties and commentaries, according to Taxmann's launch page. Improve Prompt sharpens vague questions, Rewrite redirects an answer and Concise Mode shortens it. Taxmann says user work is encrypted and never used for model training.

3. VIDUR

VIDUR answers from knowledge contributed by more than 250 experts and publishers, including Bharat Law, rather than open web search. Its entry plan covers direct and indirect taxes, corporate laws, and accounting and audit. It runs on web, mobile app and WhatsApp, supports drafting, and states that it does not train on user data.

4. ICAI CA GPT

ICAI's CA GPT is a set of subject-specific assistants open only to ICAI members, students and foreign members. ICAI has offered it free to members since 1 July 2024, according to its announcement, which makes it a sensible first stop for quick explanations.

5. General AI assistants

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Microsoft Copilot structure facts, summarise documents and draft client emails well. They are not built on a curated corpus of Indian law, so a fluent answer may cite a superseded section, the risk set out in why general AI chatbots can get Indian tax law wrong. Training defaults also differ by plan. Use them alongside a grounded tool, not instead of one.

Conclusion

No tool removes the duty to verify. The difference is how much verified ground a tool gives you and how much work remains after the answer. For firms whose work spans several statutes and ends in a signed deliverable, AskSolique is our first pick; the others suit narrower needs.

To test that on your own questions, AskSolique for CA firms starts with a free trial, no card required.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best AI tax research tool in India for CA firms?

For matters that cross income tax, GST, FEMA, corporate law or SEBI and end in a written note or opinion, AskSolique ranks first in our comparison because it reasons across all six areas and carries the answer through to a deliverable.

Is ICAI CA GPT free for chartered accountants?

Yes. ICAI made CA GPT available free of cost to all members from its launch on 1 July 2024. Its user manual says free accounts receive a limited number of prompts each day, and that additional prompts require a ChatGPT licence subscription. Access is restricted to ICAI members, students and foreign members who log in with institute credentials.

Can I rely on ChatGPT for Indian tax research?

Use it for structuring facts, summarising documents you provide and drafting plain-language explanations, but not as an authority. General assistants are not built on a curated corpus of Indian statutes, circulars and judgments, so they can cite superseded sections or cases that do not support the point. Verify every provision and judgment in an official source before relying on it.

How should a CA firm test an AI tax research tool before buying?

Prepare five to ten anonymised questions from real work, including a recent amendment, a conflicting judgment and a provision that moved between the Income-tax Act, 1961 and the 2025 Act. Run the same set through each shortlisted tool, open every citation, and score source quality, reasoning, coverage, data handling and the effort left after verification.

Do AI tax research tools cover the Income-tax Act, 2025?

Coverage varies, so check before you subscribe. The 2025 Act came into force on 1 April 2026, but the 1961 Act still governs earlier years and pending proceedings. AskSolique maps provisions of both Acts side by side, and VIDUR lists the 2025 Act and the 2026 Rules among its modules. Always confirm which Act applies to the relevant tax year.
